As the caregiver, what is the basic way that you can provide your patient with spiritual and emotional care?

You can open the doors to communication and foster empathy by checking to see if your resident has any questions. Asking your resident if they wish to see a counsellor may not be the best way to begin communicating with your resident, because they might think that you don’t wish to assist them or that you believe that they are beyond your level of care. Asking about your resident’s daily food intake doesn’t have anything to do with their emotional or spiritual needs.  Finally, asking your resident about their family visits may require you to then impose upon the resident’s family members more than they are willing to give and in the end, your resident will be disappointed.
